Montaigne Sainte-Victoire
La Sainte-Victoire is a limestone mountain ridge in Vauvenargues that extends over 18 kilometers. Its highest point is the Pic des mouches at 1,011 meters (3,317 ft). The Croix de Provence is a notable feature of the mountain. At a height of 19 meters, this cross stands out far more than the Pic des Mouches. The mountain is celebrated for its many appearances in a series of paintings by Paul Cézanne.
- How To Get There: For the northern trail that includes Barrage De Bimont dam and the Blue Trail, take Line 140 from Arts et Métiers to J04 Saint-Marc Jaumegarde (recommended). The bus leaves approximately every hour and takes about 30 minutes to get there. For the southern trails (Red Trails, etc.), take Line 110 or Line 13 Direction Le Tholonet
- Hiking: There are a number of hiking trails around La Sainte-Victoire that offer a variety of paths to explore. The climb to the Croix de Provence itself will take a few hours, so arrive prepared with snacks, lots of water, and appropriate attire. In the summer, the mountain can be closed due to the risk of fire, so confirm the night before your hike there are no such warnings.
